British Cult Horror Studio Churns Out MySpace Series

Beyond the Rave, MySpace’s latest web show, has more going for it than an angsty, half-naked cast of twenty-somethings — it was produced by cult horror movie studio Hammer Films (Dracula, Frankenstein).

BTR is Hammer Films’ first production in 30 years. The show follows a group of British soldiers who stumble upon a vampyric enclave of ravers on the eve of their deployment to Iraq.

The trailer (right), set to a dance mix reminiscent of French DJ duo Justice, reminds me of a cross between Freddy versus Jason and Queen of the Damned. Meaning, I’d watch it for both the camp factor and the body count, especially considering the show is age-restricted due to gory, mature content and drug use.

The first installment of the show airs Thursday, and will be released twice weekly, in 5-minute webisodes. The series will also be released as a full length movie on DVD, and available for download.
