Michael Salter, an artist based in Oregon, recently built a super-sized, Transformers-esque automaton sculpture from recycled polystyrene, or styrofoam.
Unfortunately, the bot doesn’t move, though it looks like it could smash a couple of Decepticons with those freakishly long arms. The 22-foot tall robot was constructed as part of an installation at the San Jose Museum of Art.
This time-lapse installation video (right) shows the construction of the sculpture from the ground up.
The robot was installed at the San Jose Museum of Art as part of their Robots: Evolution of a Cultural Icon exhibit, which looks at robot iconography in popular culture over the last fifty years. The exhibit runs through October 19.
