1Up.com's editorial director and industry icon Dan "Shoe" Hsu has resigned from Ziff Davis Media and the 1Up network. His last day is April 25th.
The announcement has nothing do with the recent demise of Games for Windows magazine, Hsu explains in his blog, and he hasn't been laid off or fired. "It's just time for me to move on," he says. 1Up's editor in chief, Sam Kennedy, will be replacing Hsu as the site's editorial director.
Hsu says he's looking forward to taking some much-needed time off, as well as crossing a few items off his bucket list, including finishing Patapon and perhaps trying World of Warcraft.
The former editor of Electronic Gaming Monthly, Hsu has been a Ziff Davis fixture for more than a decade. His departure will undoubtedly be seen as the latest evidence that the media giant is circling the drain. Ziff veterans John Davison, Luke Smith, Mark McDonald, and Bryan Intihar have all left within the past year, while Ziff Davis itself filed for bankruptcy.
