The power duo of Dan Auerbach and Patrick Carney have merged old-school blues with new-school rock since 2001, when their debut effort The Big Come-Up found them splicing Howlin' Wolf with the similarly named White Stripes to create post-millennial groove noise. Since then, The Black Keys have found love on the stadium circuit and Madison Avenue alike, as they've turned out crossover hit after crossover hit.

But their latest effort Attack and Release, released on April Fool's Day, finds them taking everything a bit closer to the edge.

Production was helmed by the notorious sound tweaker Danger Mouse, who imbued their new-school blues with some left-field electronics. The band's official site also gets into the mix with a throwback shooter game called TBK Lazerz, whose goal is explained by the simple instructions: "Kill Nerds B4 They Kill You." Harsh, dudes. Harsh.
