You never had to special-order batteries for your cassette Walkman, so why should you have to for modern gadgets such as phones and cameras? That was the inspiration for budding designers Theo Richardson, Charles Brill and Alex Williams to come up with a concept for a standardized rechargeable battery that could be combined in various quantities to power phones, laptops, PDAs and more.
The "Green Cell" concept includes public quick-recharge stations and a comprehensive recycling program. Now all they have to do is convince gadget makers to forgo a significant source of ancillary revenue for the good of the planet.
