That was the inspiration for budding designers Theo Richardson, Charles Brill and Alex Williams to come up with a concept for a standardized rechargeable battery that could be combined in various quantities to power phones, laptops, PDAs and more.

The "Green Cell" concept includes public quick-recharge stations and a comprehensive recycling program. Now all they have to do is convince gadget makers to forgo a significant source of ancillary revenue for the good of the planet.
