Startup ShareThis has raised a $15 million Series B round from Sand Hill Road venture capital firm Draper Fisher Jurvetson.

The company, based in Cincinnati with offices in San Francisco, creates a widget that allows users to instantly send a link to a web page to anyone in their address book with the click of a button. Using the same widget, users can just as easily submit a story or web page to a news aggregation or social networking site, like Reddit or Facebook.

“I view our major competition as copy and paste,” ShareThis CEO Tim Schigel told EPICENTER. He explained that many people, when they find a site or story they wish to share with a friend, will copy the URL and paste it into an e-mail. With the ShareThis widget, users bypass those steps, making the process of sharing quicker and simpler.

ShareThis previously raised $6 million in a Series A round led by Midwest firms Illinois Ventures and Blue Chip Ventures. Prior to joining ShareThis, Schigel was a VC with Blue Chip and led that firm’s investment in interactive advertising company Advertising.com, which was acquired by AOL for $435 million.
