Intel will be shipping quad-core CPUs for notebooks in the third quarter of this year, but you won't find them in a laptop that will actually fit in your lap.
The 45nm (probably the Core 2 Extreme QX9300) chips will initially find their way into tea-tray sized computers, and while technically portable, they'll be aimed at gamers and power users, and people happy to be tethered to a power outlet: these high powered machines will drain a battery faster than a coke habit will drain a bank account.
