Intel has announced that it will ship its new, six-core processor this year. Called the Dunnington (pictured above in Yorkshire), it will among the last of the Core chips (Core2Duo etc.), and proves thoroughly that now the Megahertz war is over: it's all about the cores.
The Core series will eventually be superseded by the Nehalem, a multithreaded architecture capable of, you've guessed it, eight cores per chip. The first 45nm Nehalems will also be available later this year.
