Infogrames has sent a letter to Atari's board of directors, offering to buyout the company.
Infogrames is already the majority shareholder in the beleaguered Atari, which has recently seen serious finanical issues and staff shakeups. The deal proposes an Infogrames buyout of the remaining stock for $1.68 a share.
Earlier this week, ex-Sony president Phil Harrison confirmed that he would be joining Infogrames as its president. Harrison expressed his excitement about the move, saying "This is the perfect time to join Infogrames and help shape the future of Atari -- one of the industry's legendary brands."
Atari has assembled a special committee to thoroughly evaluate the offer.
