One of the original Mozilla staffers is paying a special tribute to the open-source browser project on Monday, its tenth birthday.

For a project dubbed "Run Some Old Web Browsers Day," Jamie Zawinski has recreated the original Mosaic Communications Corporations websites from July and October 1994. Zawinski, a one-time Netscape employee and early contributor to the Mozilla project, has also culled together a repository of old browsers you can download and run if you want to surf the old sites with some retro style.

In an odd twist, AOL (which owns Netscape) wasn't willing to let Zawinski take control of the old mcom.com domain names. However, as he recounts on his LiveJournal blog, his source at AOL worked out a deal by which Zawinski could host the content and the browser downloads at the old domains.

So, it's time to celebrate some old browser love. Put on a Pearl Jam cassette, clip on a pony tail, raise a glass of red ale or something and party like it's 1994.
