England-based Omnifone is in talks with several US carriers to provide an all-you-can-download music service that would let cellphone subscribers access music from all four major labels plus thousands of indies for as little as $7.50 per month.
Omnifone CEO Rob Lewis handed me the only demo phone the company gave to any US publication in order to test the UK-based MusicStation Max service here in the US. Other than the instant access to 1.5 million tracks, I was most impressed by its built-in social network and taste-adaptive music news reader.
