Google has released a minor visual makeover for Google Docs which gives the online office suite a look and feel that you'll recognize from the desktop office applications you're familiar with.
The main difference in the new look is that tabs have been replaced with menu items that more closely approximate the look and behavior of desktop apps like Microsoft Word. The new menu structure also shows the keyboard shortcuts along side each menu item, making it much easier to learn and remember shortcuts.
A few of the functions have shifted location — revision history is now under the file menu for instance — but there don't seem to be any brand new features to go along with the redesign.
However, while the document editor interface doesn't have any new features, the main Google Docs windows did get an update to support color labels for your folders — essentially the same thing that was added to Gmail several months ago.
The interface changes may not be earth-shattering, but they do go a long way toward making users accustomed to desktop interfaces more comfortable with the online editor.
