A show called Canada's Next Great Prime Minister pit 144 young Canadians against each other in a series of debates that were posted on YouTube. The four finalists will be judged by three former Canadian Prime Ministers and the current Premier in the final show, which airs this Sunday at 7 p.m. on the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (updated).

On Monday, the CBC will become the first North American broadcaster to distribute a show via the Bittorrent protocol.

Apparently, the whole thing was inspired by a Boing Boing post about the Norwegian Broadcasting Company using Bittorrent to distribute a hit show while saving on bandwidth costs. As with the Norwegian example, no DRM will be applied to the files. A lower-resolution will be available for iPods and other portables.

The torrent links are scheduled to surface Monday morning on the show's official site.
