The tale of a unique 360 that was inadvertently ruined by Microsoft's Xbox repair service touched many hearts here at Game|Life, and also, apparently, at Bungie.

The saga began when a Halo-loving 360 owner sent his signature- and custom cartoon-bedecked 360 off to Microsoft to repairs, after the unit suffered the Red Ring of Death. The repair service wiped the console's case clean, removing the custom ink and ruining the 360's one-of-a-kind nature.

Members of the team at Halo developer Bungie heard the tale of woe and immediately got cracking on a plan to right the wrong. So far Bungie is keeping quiet on just what they have in store for Nathaniel, the Halo fan who suffered the loss, but community manager Brian Jarrad is confident that "when it's all said and done, justice will prevail."

The gaming community, and the Halo community in particular,is often seen to be populated by bitter, misanthropic jerks who delight in the suffering of others, but Jarrad says the response to Nathaniel's situation has been quite supportive.

"Our team and the community as a whole is rallying to help fix this unfortunate situation. It's been awesome to see such an outpouring of sympathy and support from our community. We can't replace the exact item that was lost but, but we should come very close," says Jarrad.

Given Team Bungie's resources, and their track record for rewarding members of the Halo community, I wouldn't expect them to simply ship a Halo 3 limited edition 360 off to Nathaniel and call it a day. Something very special is, no doubt, going to come out of all of this.

Of course, those bitter, misanthropic jerks I was talking about earlier will likely say that was Nathaniel's plan all along.
