Yashica, which used to be a well-respected mid-range camera brand, is back from the dead after going bust in 2005. Chinese conglomerate MF Jebsen has bought up the brand and is quietly trotting out a new line of digital and 35mm cameras, camcorders and accessories.
There's no word yet on pricing or U.S. availability, and the initial lineup of digicamsseems awfully imitative of every other point-and-shoot out there. Camcorders may be a different matter, however. The DVC825 has an intriguing chassis design, impressive specs and a $1,700 list price that suggests the Yashica brand won't be entirely bottom-feeder material.
