MyBlogLog, the blogging social network and activity tracker that Yahoo scooped up last year, has expanded its service to add a new activity stream, or "life-stream" if you like buzz words, to the main component of your MyBlogLog profile.
According to MyBlogLog employees (both current and former) this feature has been finished and ready to go since April of last year, but Yahoo reportedly stopped the launch because the features conflicted with another Yahoo product.
Of course that mysterious Yahoo product is still nowhere to be found and now MyBlogLog's “New with Me” looks like an also run next to FriendFeed, Plaxo Pulse and Iminta.
MyBlogLog co-founder Todd Sampson makes an interesting point over on the Social Media Explorer blog, which took MyBlogLog to task for a lack of originality. Sampson writes, “in the end, every site is going to have a user's life-stream available as a tool to help make the user's experience better.”
He goes on to say, “what a site ultimately does with the life-stream is what will matter.”
Given that just about every possible form of a “life-stream,” from the Facebook news feed to the aggregators like Plaxo and FriendFeed, are already available the focus ought to switch to what you can do with your and your friends streams.
At the moment the answer with most services is not much — view posts and leave comments.
Unfortunately, right now MyBlogLog doesn't really add any new ideas to the basic feature set of the “life-stream.” No doubt “New with Me” will be welcomed by existing users, but there's little to compel new users to join MyBlogLog.
