SCi, parent company of Tomb Raider publisher Eidos, has announced that it will drastically cut jobs and is canceling 14 different game projects as part of its restructuring efforts.

Rumors were circulating throughout the fall that companies such as Ubisoft, Time Warner, and an unnamed Chinese organization were interested in buying SCi, but none of those deals came to fruition, leaving SCi dangerously short of cash.

To save its key franchises -- including Tomb Raider, Hitman, Deus Ex, and Championship Manager -- SCi will pare its staff down to a maximum of 800 people, a reduction of 25 percent.

The company is also axing 14 game projects that it feels are least likely to generate a significant enough financial return to justify their completion.

"SCi is in need of immediate change. To get SCi on track we have to act rapidly and effect change quickly. We must allow the world-class people that we have within the Group to focus on strong, profitable titles which will create the value our shareholders deserve," said SCi CEO Phil Rogers.

Other cost-cutting efforts include melding mobile and casual gaming under the Eidos Play brand, as well as moving production services, including localization and QA, from London to Montreal.
