Online magazine Slate has released its compilation of the 60 top philanthropists of 2007, and several Silicon Valley personalities grace the list. Former Cisco chairman John P. Morgridge is #10, Siebel System's Thomas Siebel is #15, Ebay founder Pierre Omidyar ranked #25, Yahoo founder Jerry Yang tied for #27 while Oracle head Larry Ellison came in at #47.

Colleges and eponymous foundations were popular recipients of Bay Area philanthropists' largesse. Both Yang and Siebel gave to their alma maters, Stanford University and the University of Illinois, respectively. The Omidyar Networks and the Ellison Medical Foundation also pulled in sizeable donations from the entrepreneurs who gave them their names.
