LAS VEGAS -- NCSoft's new president Chris Chung might not be willing to say just which game of theirs is coming to consoles first, but was at least willing to let us know when we'd be getting our first look at it.
Speaking with Wired at the DICE Summit in Las Vegas, Chung said that his company should have "something to announce--not only announce but to show--by the second half of this year. I'm pretty psyched about that."
NCSoft is taking its new venture into the world of consoles seriously, carefully considering which of its products would work in the console space, and which are better left on PCs.
The easy solution would be to simply port NCSoft's existing library of games like City of Heroes/Villains, Guild Wars, and Tabula Rasa to the
PS3, but according to Chung, "that's the wrong way to do it. You have to create a gameplay that's really suitable for the console space, the console experience. I mean, it's very different from PC."
"I think the key is whether the development team really buys into the console. I think we have a couple of development teams that the title that they're making could be a hit in the console space as well as the
PC," said Chung.
Chung wouldn't reveal which titles NCSoft was considering giving the console treatment, saying only "We do have a couple of titles that we have in mind, we're actively making sure that they're developing for not only PC but also console.
We may have some more in future."
It's worth noting, however, that Tabula Rasa has a decidedly console-esque interface and combat design, and that the prime purpose of Mountain View, the studio that NCSoft is considering its "console specialist," is as the City of Heroes/Villains team.
