It loses its supercharger, yet picks up more ponies in power for a total of between 518 and 525 hp. The Mercedes Benz SL63 AMG will be be unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show and will go on sale sometime in the spring of 2009. Mercedes Benz hasn't released official word about the car, though the company's performance arm, AMG provides a tight preview.
The car is powered by a 6.3-liter, normally aspirated V8. The engine is coupled to a spanking new seven-speed multi-clutch transmission (available only on the SL63), which features a start-up wet clutch, replacing a conventional torque converter, and features four shift modes, including a double-clutching function. As you'd expect, the car will also include AMG's usual wizardry of sport suspension, three-stage stability control, speed-sensitive steering and performance brakes.
The current SL55 AMG sells for about $130,00. It's a fair guess that the upgrade will play in this ballpark as well.
