I came across this interesting map of the American political blogosphere. You can find it (and more) at PresidentialWatch08.

It is showing the political leanings of nearly 300 websites, including blogs as well as mass media.

I'm not sure exactly how they evaluated the progressiveness vs. conservativeness, so don't ask me. What's kind of cool though is how they are connected. If you go to the site (or click on the map above to go directly to the map) you can roll your mouse over each node and see which site it is. The bigger the node, the larger their authority.

What's very clear is how the two "sides" feed off their own...linking to other posts/reports that they think are important. The links that do cross from blue to red are likely pointing out how crazy the other guy is.

The site also has a blog where they discuss more recent statistics and general trends of the different online communities. It is a nice site, check it out.
