Starting Wednesday, 30 January, passengers taking MBTA's Worcester Line will be able to surf the web as they commute to and from Boston! The MBTA is one of the first transit agencies in the United States to offer free wireless internet onboard their commuter rail trains. Each train on the Worcester Line will have at least one Wi-Fi car (and other lines may see a Wi-Fi car every once in a while). The MBTA warns that this program is still in the testing phase and that signal may be lost in certain locations. This is, however, a major step towards attracting new rail riders. Drivers will think twice about sitting in highway traffic, when they could be working productively for an hour on the trains. Until every car has wireless available, let's just hope that the Wi-Fi cars don't get too excessively crowded - they're definitely going to be popular.
