Nikon seems to be shooting for ownership of the low-end of the digital SLR market with a successor to the well-regarded and amazingly cheap D40. The D60, set to arrive in March, price TBA, includes some notable improvements on its predecessor, including a 0.18-second startup time and an improved sensor cleaning system that tweaks airflow inside the camera to prevent dust particles from sticking to the 10.2 megapixel image chip in the first place.

Also worth noting: An expanded menu of in-camera retouching options that could let users bypass Photoshop for most shots and a stop-motion movie mode that combines multiple JPEGs into a "Gumby"-style video clip.
