A High Court judge has overturned a decision made by the UK's Video Appeals Committee, effectively re-banning the highly-controversial Manhunt 2.
The judge had determined that the decision handed down by the VAC --namely, to support an appeal filed by Rockstar-- suffered from a "clear error of law," when it evaluated whether or not the game was likely to cause harm to anyone playing it.
Manhunt 2's UK woes began when the British Board of Film Classification (BBFC) refused to give the game a rating, effectively banning it. Rockstar appealed the decision with the VAC, who voted 4-3 that Manhunt 2 was "unlikely" to harm anyone.
The BBFC didn't take that too well, and asked for a judicial review of the VAC's decision. Their request was granted, leading to Thursday's ruling by Mr. Justice Mitting. In an email to Next-Gen, the BBFC said it was "pleased" by the judge's decision.
For all intents and purposes, Rockstar is back where it started at the beginning of this whole drama: unable to release Manhunt 2 in the UK.
