A collective of award-winning Czech artists who found international fame by faking a nuclear blast on a television show could now end up in jail, according to the UK Guardian.
Last June, viewers watching a weather report in the Czech Republic saw a mushroom cloud appear over pastoral views of Bohemia. Punk'd watchers suffered a number of ailments, including heart attacks, and the ensuing mayhem drew comparisons to Orson Wells' "War of the Worlds" radio broadcast in 1938.
Last month the group, Ztohoven, won the Czech National Gallery's new talent competition (and nearly $20,000) for the work, which they said highlighted media manipulation of reality.
But the artists from the collective have been charged with scaremongering and propagating false information. They could each face up heavy fines, or up to three years in jail.
