The third variation on Chrysler's ENVI electric-vehicle theme, the Dodge ZEO presents a modern (if somewhat outlandish) reinterpretation of the muscle car. The four-seater uses the ENVI platform's 268-hp electric motor — this time driving the rear wheels — and a big, big bank of lithium-ion batteries to provide the juice. The ZEO (that's Zero Emissions Operation) will cross the 60-mph mark in a Hemi-beating 5.7 seconds and press on to 130 mph. The company claims that with a full charge, the ZEO will cruise for 250 miles, returning (brace yourself) the equivalent of 120 miles per gallon. Unlike the Chrysler ecoVoyager and Jeep Renegade, the ZEO is 100-percent electric, with no hydrogen fuel cell or internal combustion "range extender." The shape and details are certainly striking enough, but of the three ENVI concepts, the ZEO seems least plausible, if not for its audaciously flared fenders, opposed scissors-style front and rear doors, and twenty-three-inch wheels, then certainly for the multitude of pricey-as-hell laptop batteries under the floor.
