Is it possible to take Guitar Hero too seriously? Of course not.

For virtual axmen looking to make their opponents weak with envy, the guitar/amp manufacturer Peavey will soon let Guitar Hero shredders upload any image onto a guitar controller of their own design. The company has offered these customization options to buyers of their real guitars for some time, but in the second quarter of this year, will extend them to players of Guitar Hero and Rock Band on the PlayStation 2 (a spokesman indicated that support for other consoles would probably come later).

Peavey also has access to officially licensed designs from Ozzy
Osbourne, Pantera, Kiss, and other hard rocking bands. After choosing one of those or uploading your own design, you can resize, rotate, and crop until it fits just right onto the front of the guitar and add classic burst effects and background colors. Each guitar is made from the same bass (rhymes with pass) wood used in Peavey's stringed guitars.

You can already create and pre-order your own customized guitar. Whether you use your own design or one of the pre-existing ones, the price is the same: $400.

A couple of CES attendees rocked out using the Ozzy and Pantera versions:
