CES 2008: Dreamflyer Is The Bomb (And The Bomber)

Of the several pneumatic or hydraulic sit-down gaming setups at CES, the Dreamflyer is the most impressive. With a range of movement that puts 80’s classics like Outrun and Space Harrier to shame, it also batters the occupant with three huge LCD displays and a top-of-the-range flight yoke.

Alas, I didn't get a chance to dump myself in it for some family-friendly carpet-bombing action, but the fellow hogging the seat clearly enjoyed himself.

There was a day when these were the province of upscale arcades, able to afford the investment in hugely expensive cabinets and sufficiently well-trafficked to pay for them in a matter of weeks -- even the most impressive arcade titles didn't suck coins for long. Now, barely a decade or two later, such things are a consumer durable, one of the
"future is here" moments that now seems strangely mundane.

To arcade addicts, the only thing better would be a refitted Galaxy Force arcade game, which must be seen to be believed. Now that was a cabinet. The game itself, of course, was rubbish.
