Biggest Wish Fulfillment Comment During CES, or Another Blu-ray Supporter Rubbing it in?

We received a lot of comments during the Gadget Lab's coverage of CES 2008, and we liked reading all of them because they allowed us to know your immediate perspective on the material, and when warranted, the constructive criticism was very much appreciated. But the comments we probably enjoyed the most were those that made us laugh out loud or were so bizarre that we had to talk about them throughout the day.

One of the latter comments, posted by reader Debra-K, describes a timely meeting in an elevator with a certain cadre of gentlemen, presumably from Microsoft, that appear to be concerned with the Warner-Blu-ray exclusivity contract:

In Las Vegas after the CES show when I was in a Hotel elevator by myself leaning on the wall after a long day on the CES floor. The elevator stopped on the second level of the casino about 9 to 10 men came in to the elevator, the first few men that came in had seen me but [apparently] the last ones in did not, they were taller than me and I could not be seen behind the other men.

[You] could tell they were talking about the CES show but some one in the front of the elevator said "I need to buy Time Warner" then it was very quiet and no one said anything else, just dead quiet. I could see his side but not his face, The elevator door opened and we all [stepped] out and as I walked away I turned around and looked at the man that said "I need to buy Time Warner." It was Bill Gates!

I still [don’t] think he knew I was in the elevator with him. I [don’t] think I was supposed to hear what he said.

So what do you think, dear readers? Did this actually happen? Does Bill Gates discuss his stock portfolio in public elevators? Is Debra-K a mole for the Blu-ray consortium? Regardless of the truth, we appreciated the comment – thanks Debra-K!
