, which offers music from all four major labels plus thousands of indie labels and artists without the digital rights management that prevents music from being played on certain equipment, plans to sell MP3s to music fans with IP addresses and credit card accounts located outside of the United States.

"We have received thousands of emails from Amazon customersaround the world asking us when we will make Amazon MP3 availableoutside of the U.S.," said Bill Carr VP of digital music for Amazon, who said the service is "going international this year." Having received a few emails and comments about this issue myself, I think Amazon's claim to have received thousands of emails about this is accurate.

In order to offer the service abroad, Amazon will likely have to negotiate new terms for each label, since record labels and other entertainment concerns tend to see the world as highly regional, developing pricing and piracy strategies for each area. The company would not disclose when the service will roll out each country or which countries will be included.
