Zipit Wireless, which makes a little thumb-typing WiFi gadget for instant messaging via common Internet services, how now added gadget-to-phone text messaging to its menu. For $5 a month, the service will allow users to send and receive up to 3,000 text messages to or from phones. Zipit is pitching it as a budget-saver for parents footing huge wireless bills from their text-junkie kids.

The Zipit 2 device sells for $150 and, like Sony's similar-in-concept Mylo, has yet to conquer the world.
