The Wi-Fire from hField Technologies is claimed to extend your weedy WiFi range to a massive 1,000 feet. Long Tran from Yanko Design (the excellent product design showcase site) tested one out, and his conclusion is pretty much what you'd expect. It works fine, but it's big and fugly.

The antenna is USB powered and uses some software jiggery-pokery to grab and hold onto the signal. HField says that it's useful for business travelers hunting down an open access point, but that huge box will just telegraph your bandwidth-stealing intent to the nearest law enforcement officer, and we know just how much the cops like a WiFi thief.

The Wi-Fire works with Windows and OS X and will cost $80. Our advice? Save the cash and use a Pringles can.
