In an effort to woo players who have left Vanguard, Sony Online Entertainment will be reactivating all lapsed* Vanguard* accounts and giving players completely free play from December 18th, 2007 to January 3rd, 2008.
This free period only applies to players with canceled accounts.
Unsurprisingly, this move comes in the wake of a disappointing launch and terrible word-of-mouth based on the game's original build. Sigil, Vanguard's developer, has made great strides in adding content and improving the overall experience of the game, but only time will tell how well this mea culpa works in the face of all those terrible memories players have of spending $50 for an unfinished MMO.
