Which cult '60s sci-fi series links actor Patrick McGoohan with an eccentric British potter? The setting for The Prisoner was the village of Portmeirion in Wales, U.K. This Italianate marvel by the sea was designed by 20th-century architect Sir. Clough Williams-Ellis, whose artist daughter, Susan, has just died at age 89, leaving a legacy of innovative design. The Portmeirion Potteries she founded are still there, along with the other Mediterranean-style buildings McGoohan's character, Number Six, knew as simply "the Village." Another Prisoner actor, Anton Rodgers, who played Number Two, died earlier this month. So, by way of tribute, here's a clip of the brilliant, ahead-of-its-time, television show. Look out for the pastel-colored buildings.
