Things move pretty fast in the drag-racing world. An alert reader (Matt Bozarth of ATS Diesel Performance) was quick to inform us know that while the Banks Sidewinder drag pickup we covered yesterday can claim the title of World's Quickest Diesel-Powered Pickup, the crown for the World's Quickest Diesel-Powered Vehicle goes to a dragster campaigned by rival Cummins, which has clocked a 7.98-second quarter-mile at 167.43 mph, running on 100-percent Blue Sun biodiesel. The dragster runs a nitrous-packing twin-turbo Cummins 5.9-liter six-cylinder engine with a transmission by ATS Diesel. And yet, as quick as the car is, it's also astonishingly filthy (unlike the clean-running Banks pickup). Fortunately, Cummins is at work on a new rail with a 6.7-liter engine featuring common-rail direct injection and a host of modifications to boost performance and curb the smoke.
