After "taste of baby" devised in a Christmas kitchen laboratory, British television has spawned another unorthodox take on parenthood.
A Channel 4 series airing in the New Year examines the world of women who enjoy the newborn experience so much that they are happy to fake it for years. Their "reborns," or living dolls, are spookily realistic, unnnerving me the same way as the massive sculpture Baby by Australian hyperrealist Ron Mueck. At least the pretend newborns featured in the documentary (left) pose no custom-made diaper problems.
