One of the best songs sent our way recently is British Sea Power’s "No Lucifer," from their upcoming album Do You Like Rock Music.
Here’s the MP3 stream (the album doesn’t come out until January 14 of next year, although apparently it leaked onto the internet a few days ago).
British Sea Power – "No Lucifer":
The song starts with floating strings that are soon blasted out of the air by screams of "Easy!" and a blustery, rising riff with lots of reverb and tremolo (hints of GYBE and Arcade Fire are present at this stage). Verses seem to overlap, which creates a sense of tension and expectation. They resolve into a nice, almost summery chorus, the last of which almost gets triumphant.
The song’s key question, found near the end, seems to be "Is that what the future holds?" I have my theories… what do you think the song and lyrics are about?
