SUP, the Russian media company which recently bought blogging platform LiveJournal from Six Apart, announced that Jason Shellen will join the company as Vice President of Product Development for the newly formed LiveJournal, Inc. Shellen, pictured, should be a name familiar to the blog publishing business -- he managed business and product strategy for Pyra Labs, the creators of Blogger, and was part of that company's acquisition by Google in 2003. While at Google, he worked on Google Reader and, more recently, with the New Business Development department.
In a telephone interview today, Shellen talked about SUP and LiveJournal's plans for upcoming expansion and new products. The focus, for him, will be incubating new ideas to introduce to LiveJournal and SUP, with a special attention paid to the social media realm. Want to join up? LiveJournal, Inc. will be headquartered in San Francisco, and they're looking to grow their team from their current level of about 10 people. First priority is the currently unoccupied position of General Manager.
