Iphone_salesThe rumor late last week was that Apple had quietly bumped up the sales limit on iPhones from two to five both here in the U.S. and U.K.

After much speculation over the weekend, an Apple representative told EPICENTER on Monday morning that this is indeed the case. As such, you can now grab up to five iPhones at once without upsetting the natural balance of the universe. No word yet on why the limit was increased, but as earlier reports indicate, Apple probably discovered it had sufficient units on hand to meet Holiday demand.

As you may recall, the company initially capped the sales limit to two per customer back in October, a move that Blackfriars' Carl Howe said was less about trying to squelch the unlocking business and more about Apple's holiday marketing and sales strategy. With major European launches still in the wings, Howe said Apple was focused on preserving stock and making the most sales to customers who would generate additional carrier revenue payments this Holiday shopping season. If this is true, it actually brings up an interesting question: Does the limit increase here in the U.S. mean that Apple actually sold less iPhones than it was expecting in Europe? It's hard to say for sure at this point, but European sales certainly haven't been anywhere near what they were here.

An Apple representative confirmed that cash is still verboten.
