The spirited lads of the Scottish band Mogwai once expressed regret at having offered the Icelandic band Sigur Ros a spot at the All Tomorrow's Parties festival it curated a few years ago, calling them an overrated "yuppie coffee table band." But that's no reason to write them off, unless you're a superfan who must obey your snarky overlords.

A lot of electronic ink was spilled about Sigur Ros' earlier releases, and fans who have been converted to this haunting, ethereal sound will enjoy the latest album, Hvarf-Heim, available on Spinner in advance of its official release tomorrow.

This companion album will ship with the band's DVD documentary about itself, called Heima, but its music doesn't actually appear in the film. Instead, the album is a collection of rare and unreleased tracks from the band, featuring the same sort of sonic majesty contained by previous efforts.
