Uncoiling like a broken whicker chair, Sprint and Clearwire's joint WiMax plans are off. The two companies have announced that they'll be parting ways, with Sprint staring bleakly its $5bn folly's prospects and Clearwire in search of new lovers.

From Wired sister-blog, Epicenter:

"On Friday, the Wall Street Journal reports that the two companies will part ways due to "complexities" in the partnership and the departure last month of Sprint's CEO Gary Forsee -- a longtime champion of WiMax for the company."
