AuroraA sci-art collaboration has produced dazzling results that have only be hinted at. Artist Brian McClave is thought to be the only person to have successfully filmed the elusive aurora borealis in 3-D. And it's probably all the more tantalizing as there's no YouTube clip.

Working in harsh conditions with astrophysicist George Milward, McClave filmed simultaneously from two lakes in Lapland. The resulting stereoscopic video is now premiering in a specially constructed gallery space in the United Kingdom.

McClave has been working on the creative potential of 3-D for the past 10 years. Funding for this project came from the National Endowment for Science, Technology and the Arts, the Arctic Academy in Finland, and Apple. The evocative footage is playing at the Millais Gallery, Southampton Solent University.
