Chicago, one of the contenders to host the 2016 games, is planning on doing things a bit more economically. If they win their bid, they want to build a new 80,000 seat stadium, which will largely be dismantled post-games, leaving a 5,000 seat amphitheater. According to Business Week, the cost for such a locale is $350 million, a third of the price for a permanent mega playing field.
