AMD has announced its new gaming platform, named Spider. The kit consists of a 55nm processor (the Phenom 9000 Series quad core), a graphics card (from the HD 3800 Series) and a chipset to run it all (AMD 7-Series).
The Spider is designed to give a gamer everything they need to build a PC. AMD has been a definite second in the chip race for some time now, and this is clearly a shot at Intel's new 45nm Penryn chips. The specs look pretty impressive, but the most important thing for us consumers is the competition. Without that, the top dog gets arrogant and stops listening to its customers. Sound familiar?
