MediumMe.dium, the social browsing plug-in for Firefox and IE has launched a new feature called Neighborhoods, which is a filtering system designed to help you find content that will interest you.

For instance, if you were to visit the “Tech Neighborhood” your Me.dium sidebar would be populated with tech-related sites that your friends, as well as the general Me.dium user base, have visited lately. There's also a “what's hot” section for tracking memes that interest other Me.dium users.

Me.dium is spinning the service as a kind of newspaper-style “sectioning” of the web, but it's basically the same features found on sites like Technorati or in social bookmarking communities.

In fact, if Neighborhoods reminds you of some features in StumbleUpon, you're on the right track. It works pretty much just like StumbleUpon except that you get a preview of the sites in your sidebar. Sort of like StumbleUpon without the randomness of the stumbling element.

Not being a big Me.dium user I was actually somewhat surprised this didn't already exist, but now it does, so if you're a heavy Me.dium user you have another way to explore the web.
