Why didn't someone think of this sooner? The Eye-Fi Card is an ingenious little device for shutterbugs who hate cables. Imagine a 2GB SD card. Now imagine a 2GB SD card with a Wi-Fi adapter built into it. Now imagine a 2GB SD card with a Wi-Fi adpter built into it that uploads directly to Flickr (or 20 other photo sharing sites) when you take a picture. No wires. No transfers. No hassle. No worries. It totally rocks.
We took it for a test spin today and using it couldn't be simpler. All you need do is upload the software, find a Wi-fi network, sync the card, and snap some pictures. That's it. It took a mere 5 minutes for us to get it to work. Scroll down and have a gander at the pics we took at lunch.
Here's the rub though: You have to sync the card with a Wi-Fi network before uploading pictures. You do this by plugging the Eye-Fi into the included USB hub and adding a Wi-Fi network to it. It's a little annoying since you have to physically drag your computer to the desired network beforehand. You can't enter any Wi-Fi area and just start uploading pics. Oh and the card doesn't support hotspots for some reason either.
Aside from these flaws, the Eye-Fi works like a charm. If you despise cords and need to get pics uploaded to the Internetz quickly, it's one of the finest solutions we've ever seen. Actually, we might just put the little guy to work uploading shots at the next Apple event we liveblog.
