Mark your calendar and break out the piggy bank: International electronic art collective dorkbot (motto: “People doing strange things with electricity”) is throwing a special fundraising party in honor and support of injured Survival Research Laboratories crew member Todd Blair. For the uninitiated, SRL (motto: "Producing the most dangerous shows on earth") is a group of renegade machinists who stage elaborate, epic performances starring robots that spew molten metal and emit noises louder than a cruise missile. While no humans are in the actual presentations, SRL members set up, operate and break down each show.

As chronicled by Boing Boing and a newly created recovery blog, Blair sustained severe head and brain trauma while packing up an SRL show at Robodock in Amsterdam two weeks ago. Though his condition continues to improve, Blair and his girlfriend, Alex, need our support, as hospital bills and relocation costs are considerable.

Which is where Bay Area fans of robots, art and Blair come in. The San Francisco chapter of dorkbot is inviting one and all to Pier 33 this Wednesday, Oct. 10, for a night of food, drinks and awesome auction action (welding classes and SF Opera costumes are up for grabs) that will directly benefit Blair
