If you're not in New York for the College Music Journal Music Marathon, you can still attend certain performances online, and it won't cost you a nickel. Amie Street provides the artists (over two dozen), Xanga TV will handle the live video streaming, and the all-but-forgotten Friendster social network will give people a platform for viewing and sharing the shows. The Web 2.0 "marketing and monetization" company BuddyLube (check out that themesong) orchestrated the collaboration between the three other companies.
Viewers can chat with other attendees using Xanga's embedded video player (finally, a way for people to blather away during shows without annoying everyone).
To watch the performances, go to the band's Friendster or Amie Street page as they take the stage, because the streams will be live. For the latest schedule, see the "Amie Street's a Fan Of" section on the company's Friendster profile. Here's the initial line-up:
- Datarock: Thursday, 10/18, 10pm est. View on Friendster or Amie Street.
- Anathallo: Saturday, 10/20, 9:15pm est. View on Friendster or Amie Street.
- Eli "Paperboy" Reed & The True Loves: Saturday, 10/20, 7pm est. View on Friendster or Amie Street.
- Samantha James: Unlisted. View on Amie Street.
