Impressed with Vizio’s rather awesome 720p models, we had high hopes for their mid-priced 1080p 52-inch LCD. But those hopes dwindled when we saw its badly oversaturated color. Right out of the box, actors looked sunburned on the VX52, and scenes showed an orangish, almost burned tint. Hours spent twiddling with menus and color options improved the picture slightly, but it never quite looked right to us. Sins like this can be condoned if the price for the TV is right. We looked the other way when Vizio’s 60-inch LCD cast the same orange hue on every image. Not this time. Even at a discounted price, this LCD is both hard to watch and a waste of money. Forgiveness may be divine, but we never claimed to be anything close to holy. —C.C.

WIRED Full 1920 x 1080 native resolution makes this a great match for late-model game consoles.

TIRED Terrible color. Poor noise reduction leaves the picture grainy when set low and creates artifacts at higher settings. Has trouble de-interlacing difficult 24 FPS sources, creating moiré and jaggies.
