At first glance, the NEC SX-9's beauty shot, lacking any indication of scale, makes it look like some cheapo NAS unit or external hard drive. In truth, the SX-9 would stamp on the NAS unit's face and roar mightily, yea, for it is in fact the world's most powerful supercomputer and is 500 feet tall.
When not doing battle with Mothra or the Übershatner, the 839 teraflop SX-9 kicks back and relaxes with some climate modeling, aerospace simulation, corporate research or other large-capacity scientific numbercrunching. It'll be on display in Reno, Nevada, at a convention next month.
